👋 Getting started

RetroVault lets you list all your games and consoles in one place, know their value, and build a nice showcase to share if you want to.

🔑

Log in with the account you were given. Once inside, everything is saved automatically.

🚀

Get going by adding your first game (next section) or importing your list if you already have one.

🔒

Your collection is private by default. No one can see it unless you decide to make it public.

➕ Add your games and hardware

Two ways to add a game, your choice:

📷

Scan the barcode or take a photo of the cover — RetroVault recognizes the game on its own.

⌨️

Type the title and pick from the suggested list, with the right cover art.

You can also add your consoles and accessories (controllers, memory cards…), and even a missing platform if it isn't offered yet.

💡

Remember to specify the game's condition (new, complete in box, loose…): that's what lets us estimate its value accurately.

🔍 Browse and organize

Is your collection growing? Find everything in an instant:

  • Search by title and filters (platform, region, genre…) to zoom in on what you want.
  • Wishlist: your list of wants, to tick off as you get them.
  • Favorites: highlight the pieces you love most.
  • Sub-collections: build your own groupings (e.g. "My Zelda games", "Sega consoles").
  • Loans: keep track of what you've lent out — who borrowed what, and since when.
  • Condition tracking: note the state of the box, the media, the manual and the rest of the contents for each game or device, piece by piece.
✨

Not sure what to play tonight? RetroVault can suggest a game from your collection based on your mood.

💰 How much is your collection worth

RetroVault automatically estimates the value of your games from market prices, taking their condition into account.

📈

Follow the value evolution of your collection over time, like a little portfolio.

🔎

A "How much is it worth" tool gives you a quick estimate for a specific game, even before buying it.

💡

Prices move: the same game is often worth much more complete in box than "loose". We explain all that further down in the glossary.

💻 Steam, GOG, Epic… your digital games

Not all your games are boxed? Link your Steam, GOG and Epic Games accounts to import your digital libraries in a few clicks.

  • Find all your digital games alongside your physical collection, platform by platform.
  • Discover some fun recaps: your "backlog pile of shame" (games never launched), a top 10, or an idea of what to play tonight.
  • A "You have it too" badge automatically flags games you own in both physical and digital form.
🎮 The fun stuff: achievements, mini-games and tools

RetroVault isn't just an inventory — there's plenty to enjoy:

🏆

Achievements to unlock as your collection and activity grow (volume, rarity, regions, reflexes…).

🎲

Mini-games: the Daily Guess and the Quiz to test how well you know your own collection.

🧰

Handy tools: Controller test, Screen test (dead pixels, test patterns) and Reflex test — in two modes (simple reaction + Whack-a-mole), with records and leaderboards.

📸

Nice renders to share: collector business card, cover wall, fullscreen mode…

🎽

The Skin Wardrobe: climb the collector tiers (from Rookie to Mythic) to unlock avatar frames, name effects, profile backgrounds, and even entire interface themes — each with its own day and night version.

🌐 Your public profile and social features

Want to show off your collection? Activate your public showcase: you get a link to share (Instagram bio, QR code, with friends…), and no one needs an account to view it.

  • Pick an avatar (a thumbnail from the gallery or your own photo) shown on your showcase and homepage.
  • Follow other collectors and keep up with their new additions.
  • Give and receive likes ❤ on collections and pieces.
  • See who follows you, your subscriptions, and your showcase's view count.
  • Chat privately with other collectors via the built-in messaging.
  • List an item for sale or trade on RV Market, with an automatic alert if it matches someone's wishlist.
🔒

You stay in control: you can turn off your showcase at any time, and choose what you show. You sign in with your username or email address.

📚 Resources and collector's glossary

New to retro-gaming? Here are the basics to find your way around.

How is a game's value estimated?

A video game's value mostly depends on four things: its condition (complete or not, damaged or pristine), its rarity, its region (a Japanese import can be worth more or less than a European copy), and current demand. RetroVault relies on actual market prices to give you an estimate, but the fair price always remains "what someone is willing to pay".

The condition glossary (loose, CIB, sealed…)

Loose

The game on its own — the cartridge or disc, without box or manual.

CIB (Complete In Box)

Complete: the box, the manual and the game, everything is there.

Sealed

New, still shrink-wrapped, never opened. Usually the most sought-after.

Box only / Manual only

A separate piece, useful for completing a game bought loose.

PAL / NTSC-U / NTSC-J

The main regions: Europe (PAL), North America (NTSC-U) and Japan (NTSC-J). This affects compatibility and value.

A quick guide for retro collectors

  • Always check the actual condition: disc scratches, plastic yellowing, manual present.
  • Store away from sunlight, humidity and dust — cardboard boxes suffer from all of that.
  • Watch out for counterfeits on certain sought-after titles (repro cartridges, reprinted covers).
  • Note the region and edition (standard, collector, limited) carefully: two copies of the "same" game can have very different values.
💡

What matters most is the fun: collect what you love before thinking about resale.
